To ensure all stakeholders (parents, staff, pupils, governors) are made aware each half term of the schools milestones in the process leading towards KHSS accreditation

PSHCE
Programme
(Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education)

By February 2005 the PSHCE curriculum is revised to ensure that the programme demonstrates continuity and progression and reflects the Kirklees PSHCE Toolkit for teachers
To further develop the PSHCE curriculum and increase involvement of outside agencies in supporting the work of the school.
The PSCHE programme includes increased use of outside agencies to support and enhance the PSHCE curriculum

 

HOW ????

Refine the scheme of work to incorporate the Kirklees toolkit units
-Develop planning procedures to ensure coverage continuity and progression
-Liase with catering service to support class work on healthy eating - tasting sessions / Munch visits
-Encourage other visits and visitors - eg. people who help us / school nurse/ community policeman

Smoke Free Environment
By December 2004 pupils in KS 2 know, understand and can explain the importance of smoke free spaces

Healthy Eating
By starting a "Healthy Hut" (tuck shop) each day, pupils have an increased awareness of eating healthy foods
To increase the number of children bringing/ eating a healthy snack at break time
To increase the number of children choosing a healthy option at lunchtime
To improve dining room facilities by February 2005
 

HOW ????

Staff meeting agenda item, to discuss healthy options available to staff
- Pupil questionnaire to gauge opinion re. Dining facilities, food choices, space and organisation
-Posters/ displays promoting healthy choices
-Lunch on Us day/ tasting sessions
-Ideas/ costings to revamp dining area
-Audit contents of lunch boxes
-Leaflets for parents / information re healthy food

Safe, Clean and Stimulating Environment
Visitors have an improved understanding of the layout of the school, by having access to a plan in the prospectus and reception area
By February 2005 improvements are made to the toilet areas creating a pleasant area for children to use
 

HOW ????

-School plan included in prospectus and displayed in Reception area
-School/ class council discuss improvements to toilet facilities
-Research costing involved in upgrading toilets

To consult and involve parents and carers with the KHSS process- in particular
a. Healthy Eating

-Agenda item at Parents in partnership meetings - minutes with opportunities for comments sent to all parents

By achieving Investors in Pupils by February 2005, pupils will have become more involved, part of and participating in school life

Physical Education and Physical Activity
As part of the Spen Valley School Sports Coordinator programme the school will achieve Activemark status (time scale set by SSCO)
The school has a Green Travel plan in place
 

HOW ????

-Work alongside the SSCO programme
-Raise awareness of a Green Travel Development Plan and surrounding issues and share ideas with parents /carers/ staff/ pupils and governors

Staff Health and Wellbeing
The school has appointed a well-being coordinator
A policy has been drawn up with evidence of whole staff involvement
Issues raised in the staff questionnaire are raised and discussed
